E-Verification of Income Tax Return (ITR) is a digital process used to confirm the authenticity of the filed tax return without submitting a physical copy of the ITR-V (acknowledgment) to the Income Tax Department. It involves online methods such as Aadhaar OTP, net banking, or electronic verification code (EVC).
On the other hand, offline ITR verification requires taxpayers to send a signed physical copy of the ITR-V to the Centralized Processing Centre (CPC) within 30 days of filing the return. The e-verification process eliminates the need for manual submission of documents, making the verification process quicker and more convenient for taxpayers.
